Artist Beck had an idea a little while ago. This idea was to get a bunch of musicians in a studio and cover an album from start to finish without rehearsal. The albums they covered where The Velvet Underground and Nico, Songs of Leonard Cohen, Oar and currently Kick by INXS. A few notable artists on these are Brian LeBarton, Devendra Banhart, Feist, MGMT, Wilco, St. Vincent, Liars and many more. Each week Beck has been posting a video from the studio also lots of sites offer free downloads in MP3 format.

Here is a video of:
St. Vincent
Daniel Hart
Sergio Dias
Liars
Beck Hansen
Brian LeBarton
Putting their spin on INXS - New Sensation.

If you don't appreciate this you don't appreciate music.

Release Date: June 7 2010
Genre: Indie Pop

The Drums? Who are they? Thats the question i found asking myself. These guys seem to have a lot of hype surrounding their first self-titled release this summer. I have currently heard two songs from this album on various music sites. Upon hearing them i must say i have joined in on adding to the hype. They almost sound like a weird blend of The Smiths mixed with Joy Division. I don't know to much about them besides they are an American band and that former member of Elkland formed this band.

Here is their First video of their self-titled album

Release Date: June 23, 2009
Genre Folk

The other day i was driving and i unfortunately didn't have my iPod to plug into my car. To some people this isn't a big issue, but to me it is since i hate listening to the radio. So i started to scan airwaves for something decent. I came to CBC Radio2 (103.3 in Ottawa). I hear this beginning to what sounds like a good folk song, and then these two smooth voices which mold into one come over the music giving me goose bumps. For 4 minuets i'm sitting in my car in pure ecstasy. The Dj comes on after the song saying "that was Madison Violet with Crying". When i got home that night i immediately got the album and put on my headphones. Hit play and listened to the entire 40 minuet album without interruption. Madison Violet is made up of Brenley McEachern
Lisa McIsaac both Canadians

Why we like it:
1) Every track on the album succeeds brilliantly on its own terms without any overdubs or unnecessary clutter
2) What Folk music should be
3) If ever two voices were made to join together these are them

Released: May 10, 2010
Genre: Indie rock

Are you ready for my pick for album of the year? well here it is. Its been three years since The National have released their critically acclaimed LP "Boxer". They have followed it up with an even better record...Yeah i know thats a very bold statement, but trust me you will agree upon listening to High Violet.

Why we love it:
1) Matt Berninger voice and his inability to write bad lyrics
2) Their third masterpiece in a row
3) Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon appear on album

Hey former SBacker Music Movement followers and new followers. After a hiatus from informing you on new/favourite and up coming bands i felt the need to get back into it. Since my last post on SBMM over 3 months ago my music library has been growing at a rapid speed. This is good news for you since i will try to post all of theses findings. Stay Tuned
